Scientific Name: Eupherusa nigriventris.

Size: 3 1/4” (8 cm)

World Distribution: Costa Rica to West Panama.

Habitat: Canopy and edges of wet mountain forest.

LPWG Sightings: Common to abundant at feeders year round.

Special Features: Costa Rica is the best place in the world to see the species.

Field Marks: The male has a sooty black face with velvet-like black belly. The female has a whitish underside. Has a short straight bill and rufous secondary feathers on its wings.
